WEST END CLUE At the annual meeting of the West End Croquet Club there was a good attendance of members. The secretary read the annual report which was considered very satisfactory. The South Canterbury tournament was held on the club’s greens in February. Mr Freeman was successful in winning the handicap doubles with Mrs Bridges of Timaru Club. Card afternoons held fortnightly provided entertainment during the winter and aggregate prizes presented by Mrs Munro and Mrs Dennison were won by Mrs Mclntyre and Mrs CoghiU respectively. A very successful patriotic flag bridge afternoon was held in August, in aid of the Navy Queen. The club also gave three donations to patriotic purposes. Several enjoyable matches were played with kindred clubs during the season. Trophies won during the year were as follows: Mary Carlton Memorial Cup, Mrs Renton; Chiles Cup, Mr Freeman; Cornwall Cup, Mrs Dennison; Rose Bowls, Mrs Chapman and Mrs Brittenden; Munro Cup, Mrs Brittenden. Mrs Cornwall, a valued member who is ill, was wished a speedy recovery. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Freeman who did the marking of the lawns during the season, Mr Anderson and staff, Mr L. P. Ricketts for auditing the books, and to all who had assisted to make the season an enjoyable one. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs Freeman; vice-president, Mrs Renton; captain, Mrs Chapman; vice-captain, Mr Freeman; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Brittenden; tea conveners, Mrs Ashton and Mrs Dennison; committee, Mesdames Curr, Hall, Chapman, Renton. Ashton, Dennison, Mr Curr and Mr Freeman.
