Appeal On Ground Of Status (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. May 20. In the first case of its kind to be neard by No. 5 Armed Forces Appeal Board, the chairman. Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.. announced the Board’s decision in the appeal heard at Westport in which Michael O’Connor, on the grounds of status, claimed to be exempt from overseas service as a citizen of Eire. The board, in dismissing the appeal, found that he was a natural bom British subject and resident of New Zealand and was, therefore, properly within the division, but whether he should oe called up for service was a policy matter to be determined by the Government.
