GROUP TRAVEL PARTY The Nelson Country Women’s Group Travel party, under the leadership of Mrs W. A. Jenson, stopped in Fairlie yesterday on their way to the Hermitage. During their stay the party were entertained at lunch by the Fairlie Women’s Institute and the Fairlie Women’s Division. In the absence of Mr W. Scott, Mr D. Jeune welcomed the visitors on behalf of the County. Mrs A. H. Gillingham, South Island organiser for Womens’ Group Travel, also extended a welcome. Mrs Gillingham said that tours to Nelson were the most popular of any on account oft the lavish hospitality extended to visitors. Mrs C. H. Miller (Women’s Institute) and Mrs J. Oakley (Women’s Division) also spoke. Mrs Jenson thanked the Fairlie organisations for their welcome. The tours made it possible to have holidays at a very reasonable price. Mrs Heath (Nelson Women’s Institute) and Mrs Ryder (Nelson Women’s Division) also spoke. WEATHER STATISTICS The following are the weather statistics for April at “Pusey”:— Rainfall for month, ,86ins; number of days on which rain fell, 8; rainfall to date this year, 12.02in5; highest temperature for month, 73; lowest temperature (not ground) 30; average temperature for month 51. YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB There was an attendance of 16 at the April meeting of the Young Farmers Club. Mr D. Lundie, who presided, said that D; Scott, E. Butters, and Morton were placed first, second and third respectively in the sheep judging competition at the Mackenzie annual show. Mr Carter gave (particulars of a new scheme by which individual clubs could interest themselves in experimental trials of linen flax, wheat, etc. The chairman urged members to bring along new members. Mr Grant, of Timaru, gave an address on wool and sheep skins. He showed some samples of German and Italian artificial wool and explained their inferiority to real wool.
