NOW £690,000

MILLION POUND APPEAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 4. The latest figures for the Million Pound Appeal as supplied by Mr J. Abel show that more than £690,000 is in hand. This does not include contributions resulting from the telephone appeal on Anzac night. When the correct provincial ’ results are finally known it is estimated that the New Zealand total will be more than £725,000, excluding the telephone appeal. The increase during the last two weeks had been about £75,000. The main increases had come from the following districts:—Auckland province £17,000, Taranaki £16,000, Wellington Metropolitan area £12,000, Buller (Nelson province) £lO,OOO, Wellington provincial zones £BOOO, Hawke’s Bay, Westland and Canterbury £3OOO each. The National results made up by provinces are as follows—Auckland £170,000, Wellington £139,000, Canterbury £94,000, Otago £73,000, Taranaki £52,000, Hawke’s Bay £52,000, Nelson £37,250, East Coast £22,650, Southland £21,300, Marlborough £18,500, Westland £9,900; total £690,800.
