TEMUKA GERALDINE FLAT WINS
St. Peter’s Lose By Five Gaines
Tennis Competition
By defeating St. Peters by 76 games to 71 on Saturday, Geraldine Flat maintained its unbeaten record and won the Temuka Town and Country A grade tennis competition. Both teams were depleted by the absence of players on service. With only the mixed doubles to play, St. Peters led by 57 games to 52, but the Flat won every set to finish with a margin of five games. St. Peters' had only been defeated once, and if it had won the match, both teams would have been equal and a play-off would have been necessary. It is the first time that Geraldine Flat has won the competition and it is to be congratulated on its fine achievement this season. Results (Geraldine Flat names first)— Women’s singles: Mrs J. "THE STARS LOOK DOWN” ‘‘The Stars Look Down” showing tonight at the Elite Theatre, Temuka, is one of A. J. Cronin’s best-selling novels and has now become a screen classic. The story, as it is generally known, deals with the hopes and aspirations of a studious young miner, David Fenwick, who sacrifices his ambitions for pretty, shallow little Jenny Sunley, who lets him down in preference to the unscrupulous self-made Joe Gowlan. This human drama Is being played out while the mine Itself and its impending disaster looms in the background throughout the whole film. The climax is one of the most impressive scenes ever brought to the screen. Temuka will observe a holiday on Thursday for the Town and School picnic. The Temuka Technical Association has invited enrolments for the following classes: Mathematics (Air Force syllabus); shorthand and typing; bookkeeping; woodwork; wool classing (Temuka and Geraldine). Candidates interested in the formation of woodwork class at Geraldine are requested to inform either the chairman or the director of the Association.
