“MONEY IS SCARCE”
WHY AGA KHAN SOLD TWO DERBY WINNERS (From Jur Own Correspondent) LONDON, October 26, The Aga Khan, who is popularly reputed to be one of the world's richest men, this week in Switzerland revealed why he has Sold his two Derby winners, Bahram and Mahmoud, to America. “Money is so scarce that it was unavoidable,” he said, “I was heartbroken when I had to part with. Bahram. He was worth hundreds of thousands of pounds in normal times, but I sold him for £40,000. “I still do not even know who the purchaser was, as the negotiations were conducted by my secretary in Ireland. I shall still keep about a hundred horses In Ireland. When the war is over racehorses will be as valuable as ever in all countries."
The Aga Khan knows nothing of the fate of his rich stable and Its staff in Brittany. He said that he is rigorously observing his promise to the Swiss Government that he <lll refrain from political activity while he Is in Switzerland.
