Nicholson, aged 23 years, a fighter pilot, received from the King this morning the Victoria Cross awarded him for brav.ery when, although wounded and his plane on fire, he remained in the burning aircraft and attacked and shot down an enemy fighter. Flight Lieutenant Nicholson received burns and was in hospital for some time. The King had a long talk with the airman in the private audience chamber, where the investiture took place.
