C Grade Competition Won By High School High School won the C grade section of the Waihao Lawn Tennis Sub-As-sociation’s competitions in the final against Willowbridge yesterday afternoon. In the B grade section Morvc.i won the south zone, and St. Paul’s and Walmate B2 have to play off a draw in the north zone. The winning team will meet Morven. Scores in the C grade final were (Willowbridge names first): Men’s singles: G. Kelly lost to R. Jackson 1-7, S, F. Cox beat D. Keane 7-4, E. Rogers beat J. Eddington 7-5, S. D. Richmond beat I. Grant 7-2. Women’s singles: Mrs Bruce lost to Miss D. Scott 3-6, Mrs D. Irving lost to Miss L. Allen 1-6, Miss J. Voss lost to Miss J. Dash 4-6, Mrs Dunstan lost to Miss A. Hansen 2-6. Men’s doubles: Kelly and Cox beat Jackson and Keane 7-3, Rogers and Richmond lost to Eddington and Grant 5Women’s doubles: Mrs Bruce and Miss Irving lost to Misses D. Scott and L. Allien 1-6, Miss Voss and Mrs Dunstan beat Misses J. Dash and A. Keane 6Mixed doubles: Kelly and Mrs Bruce lost to Jackson and Miss Scott 0-6, Cox and Miss Irving beat Keane and Miss Allen 6-5, Rogers and Miss Voss lost to Eddington and Miss Dash 3-6, Richmond and Mrs Dunstan beat Grant and Miss Hansen 6-2. High School won by 10 sets to six.

UNITED CHURCH SERVICE

This year the United Church Service conducted by the Walmate Ministers’ Association filled the Arcadia Theatre. The service, which was held on Sunday, was conductedby Major J. Allott, who gave the address, and prayers and readings were taken by Professor J. Collie, the Rev. A. H. Acheson and the Rev. A. T. Kent. Features were a solo by Mrs H. Moses of Auckland, a comet solo by Master T. Phillips, and singing by the united church choirs.

A QUIET HOLIDAY

The King’s birthday was a quiet holiday in Waimate, the only sporting fixture being a tennis final. Brilliant sunshine throughout the day made the Waihao river a popular attraction, and many favourite spots on its banks were crowded with picnic parties.
