Dec. 27, 28, 31—Auckland T.C. Dec. 28—Winton T.C. Jan. 1, 2—Canterbury Park T.C. Jan. 4, 6—Greymouth T.C. There will be racing to-day at Invercargill, Ellerslie and Levin, and trotting at Forbury. Heidelberg, who has been trained at Invercargill for some time, is now in a Wingatui stable. Sir Cameron was not an acceptor for the Alison Cup, his name being sent out in error instead of that of Clipper. Rollicker, winner of the Levin Handicap on Saturday, is the horse that once returned a three-figure dividend at Hawera. • • • • Distress Signal, who won the maiden race at Levin after finishing second at Otaki, is by Rocket (Day Comet-Top-score), who finished second in Palantua’s New Zealand Cup. • • • • Consistency was rewarded when Lord Waitangi won the Hack Cup at the Waikato meeting. Since the season opened he had registered four seconds and a third in six starts. Remarc, who won the Williamstown Cup for “Lucky” Connolly, could not stay a mile and a quarter in Perth, but he equalled Manolive’s record of 2.2 when he succeeded in the Final Handicap at Flemington. The Levin course resembles a square with the comers rounded off. The run home is short, and usually first round the corner is first home. Good beginners and horses drawn close in have a big advantage in sprint races.. The starters in the hurdle race at Levin on Saturday were all maidens in that department. Kincora 9.6 was top-weight acceptor by virtue of two seconds, in a like number of starts this season. • • * • Provision has had to be made for a division in the Trial Handicap at Invercargill, the acceptors being three over the safety limit, but it is anticipated that necessity for splitting up the race will be avoided. The “Sporting Globe” ranks the horses which i-aced in Melbourne thus: Beau Vite 1, High Caste 2, Beaulivre 3, Ajax 4. It says that Ajax may race again and win, but while the three New Zealanders are about he will have to take a back seat. The Takanini trainer F. Smith provided four of the acceptors—Cambria, Route March, Himalaya and Nettarion —in the Cambria Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday. As all run for different owners none was bracketed in the race-book. • • • • Ronald Logan did not get going well in the Hurricane Handicap at Forbury, and at the end of half a mile the only horse behind him was Happy Man, who broke up at the start. The three-year-old was still well back four furlongs from home, and from there did well to finish about sixth. For the second time in a fortnight the Hastings trainer G. Greene has lost one of his team by accident. Morning Flight (Laughing Prlnce-Moa Bird) fell when being schooled over hurdles, and then hit a post and broke a leg when attempting to gallop through a gateway. e e Nigger Boy, 9.13, has been given a real horse’s weight in the Flying Handicap at Feilding. He is rated a full stone above Saxon Tor, who was awarded top weight in the Stewards’ Handicap. The Nigger Minstrel gelding has made a steep ascent in the weights during the last two months. Jacose won a double at Waimate in the autumn in the manner of a potential champion, but in subsequent starts the Ashburton pacer either broke at the start or ran indifferently. He staged a comeback on Saturday, when he led throughout to win the Freyberg Handicap at Forbury. Jacose has a great burst of speed, and might go a long way if he becomes reliable. Walter Moore, whose previous performances had justified the universal belief that he was a non-stayer, revealed unexpected signs of stamina by collecting third money in the Hurricane Handicap at Dunedin. The most satisfactory feature of his performance was that he made a second dash after it had appeared that he was about to stop. e e There was a meagre entry for the Southland Cup. and only five horses are likely to run this afternoon. They are, however, capable of providing a good contest. Sparkle won the last Dunedin Cup; Peony Rose and Mona’s Song have won several races over the distance. Doubleack won the Wyndham Cup, and Sir Hugh the Spring Handicap at Gore. e e Certissimus, surprisingly only second favourite on the place machine, had a simple task in the Artillery Handicap at Forbury. Beginning smoothly, he was in third place at the end of two furlongs, and second to Axworth with half a mile behind him. He trotted up to the leader three furlongs from home, and won without being extended from Manian, who moved evenly all the way but had no chance of overhauling the Point three-year-old. Certissimus has won three times in four starts, his only defeat being sustained when his driver miscounted the number of laps at Greymouth. * Dark Hazard won impressively on the third day at Addington, but he had failed to trot a yard on the two preceding days, and obviously few people were prepared to trust him again at Forbury, where he was the outsider of the field. The Great Bingen gelding was inclined to mix his gait once or twice, but he had no difficulty in registering another win—his third since he discarded the hopples. The favourite, Bush Laddie, soon dashed to tlie front in an attempt to lead for the rest of the journey, but while he beat all the others he had nothing in reserve when Dark Hazard tackled him in the straight.

King' Potts commenced correctly in the King George Handicap at Forbury, and was soon out in front. Guncase headed him at the mile, and commencing the final circuit Guncase, Loyal Rey and Peter Smith were all in front of him. Three furlongs from home King Potts had drifted further back and appeared to have lost his chance, but pulled to the outside he made a fast run up the straight to win from Loyal Rey and Peter Smith. The Oamaru gelding is a brilliant pacer, but requires plenty of room to use his speed to advantage. The King George Handicap was run at a slow gait, the winner being allowed to take 4.33 for the two miles. Kindergarten, who captured the AJison Cup on Saturday, is a three-year-old by Kincardine from Valadore (Valkyrian-Adornment). He was bred by the successful Gisborne owner, Mr E. Fitzgerald, and was trained by I. Tinsley. Kindergarten won three times in his last four starts as a two-year-old, and this season he has scored two wins, two seconds and a third in five outings. He was taken to Auckland early in the current term, and to give him better opportunities was left there in the care of R. S. Bagby. Mr Fitzgerald’s horses have won a huge number of races during the last two years, but nearly all of them have been gained at the “smalls” in the Bays, and two successes at Ellerslie with Kindergarten may encourage him to send more horses further afield.
