CHEQUE TO PAY FINE
Man Who Carried Bomb Feted By Telegraph- Press Association—Copyright (Received November 24, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 23. Leighton Morris, who was originally lined £lOO for carrying an unexploded bomb from a building, was feted and received a cheque from his neighbours to pay his fine, also a good bit over. Last week the Home Secretary reduced the fine to £5. ACTION AGAINST I.R.A. Twenty-four Members Sent To Gaol By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright (Received November 24, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 23. A Belfast Judge sentenced 24 young members of the I.R.A. to a total of 177 years’ imprisonment. The heaviest sentence was on Thomas Byrne, aged 20. who received 12 years’ imprisonment for being In possession of a revolver. Byrne was wounded in attempting to escape after wounding a policeman Nineteen others received seven years’ imprisonment and four others eight years on charges of treason.
