WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST

FAIR TO FINE (Special to "The Timaru Herald.”) WELLINGTON, November 24 Winds—Sea breezes during the day, otherwise winds light to moderate and variable. Weather—Fair to fine, temperatures cool on the coast, milder inland. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation Pressure is high over the New Zealand area, anti-cyclones being centred over the South Island and to the north of the North Island. The disturbance over the Tasman Sea has become weaker. Forecast Winds—Light to moderate and variable over most of the country, but southerlies probably persisting in the Gisborne district. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rough between Castlepoint and East Cape but decreasing gradually from the south; elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate variable winds tending northerly and freshening somewhat. Seas slight or moderate. Weather—For the most part fair to fine; some isolated light showers at first on the East Coast of the North Island and cloud Increasing later on the West Coast of the South Island; some light frosts in Canterbury, Otago and Southland, but temperatures becoming milder.

Conditions for the holiday week-end have been disappointing. Although the sun shone continuously on Saturday there was a blustering south-easterly blowing. IN OTHER CENTRES Dunedin: There were several hours of sunshine on Saturday, but the weather was frequently threatening and a few showers fell. A light to moderate south-west wind prevailed, but temperatures were mainly mild the maximum being 54 degrees. The barometer rose steadily to 30.02 inches (1017 millibars). Yesterday morning the sky was overcast but soon cleared, the rest of the day being bright, sunny and cool. A south-easterly wind kept down temperatures, the maximum being 60 degrees. The barometer was steady. NEWS AND NOTES There was a splendid attendance at the weekly card and dance evening at the Main School. The winners at cards were Mrs Tapp and Mrs Mcßride, and Mr Luke, while the aggregate prizes went to Mesdames Stephens, Austin and Dewar respectively. Mrs McDougall was successful in the weekly competition and Mr Stephens and Miss Verdun in the Monte Carlo waltz. The Scottish Society’s dance on Saturday was well attended.
