Mrs H. Reid, Park Lane, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mrs E. Howden, Park Lane, has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Hurn, who has been the guest of Mrs Harper Booker, Gleniti, has returned to Waimate. Mrs Gladstone Robinson, Christchurch, who has been visiting Dunedin has returned to Timaru. Miss Margaret Scott, Dunedin, is spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs J. M. Scott, Seddon Street. Mrs Douglas Deans, Darfield, is the guest of Mrs E. C. Studholme, Te Waimate. Mrs Hutson and Miss Joy Hutson, who have been spending a holiday at "Sundrum.'’ Woodbury, returned to Timaru yesterday. Mrs L. Forgle, Wellington, and Mrs Gordon Priest, Palmerston North, who have been staying with their sister. Mrs W. Hole, Te Weka Street, have returned north. A message from London states that Pamela, daughter of Major Hugh Wright, of Hawke’s Bay, is affianced to Captain Philip Shaw, of the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. The engagement is announced of Edna Alice Rutherford, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Mitchell, Timaru, and Alexander Robert, only son of Mr and Mrs J. G. Thompson, Mt. White, Cass. The engagement is announced of Winifred May, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Weenink, of Pareora, and Henry Francis, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. Lee, Ryton, County Durham, England. The engagement is announced of Rhona Kathleen, third daughter of Mr and the late Mrs J. S. C. Woodhead, “Willowbank,” Temuka, and Private William Harold, second son of Mr and Mrs H. Armstrong, 90 Avenue Road, Timaru. A recent arrival from England is Mrs Hazel Addis with her two children, Valerie and Jeremy. Mrs Addis, who lived in New Zealand from 1926 to 1929, when her husband, Commander E. E. Addis, R.N., was serving in the Philomel, is better known as Hazel Adair, author of many popular novels. Commander Addis is also an author who writes novels under the name of Peter Drax. Mrs Addis, whose home is- in Oxshott, Surrey, has settled for the time at Beach House, Milford, Auckland, and Is already at work on a new book. Her husband was recalled to the Navy just before the outbreak of war and is now serving in the Mediterranean.
