PRODUCE MARKET

DUNEDIN Bs Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, November 22. An occasional line of last season’s milling wheat is still appearing on the market, and is being accepted by millers. Transactions in this class of wheat have to be completed by the end of the month. There are a few lines of milling wheat now left in the Otago district. Best quality fowl wheat is worth 5/9 to 6/- a bushed, ex the store. Prospects for the coming harvest are bright. In some districts crops were being affected by the dry weather conditions, but recent rains arrived just in time to save the situation. Few transactions are going through in the oats market. On one hand stocks are on the light side, but on the other hand there is little inquiry. North Island merchants appear to have purchased sufficient stocks in the meantime and only an occasional inquiry is received from the north. The ruling value for A Gartons is 4/9 to 4/10 a bushel, f.o.b-s.i., with B Gartons worth 4/6 to 4/7, f.0.b.5.1. The area planted in oats is up to the average and better yields should be obtained this season.

Stocks of chaff in stores are on the light side, but the demand is weak. Supplies are ample for all requirements. The best quality is worth £6/10/- a ton, and small lots ex stores realise a higher value. There is no change in the potato market. Supplies in stores are being sold at the best prices that can be obtained in order to make a clearance. Some of the prices accepted are very low. The seeds market is quiet, most of the business being confined to the filling of retail orders. The ryegrass market is unaltered. Higher germinating seed is in small supply but stocks are just about sufficient to meet the demand. Cocksfoot values are higher than has been the case for a number of years. Limited supplies only are available. Supplies of white clover are scarce following on the export to England of a substantial quantity. The cowgrass market is quiet with little overseas business.
