CRICKET WIN FOR CHRIST’S COLLEGE

ANNUAL MATCH WITH TIMARU Christ’s College beat Timaru Boys’ High School by 13 runs on the first innings in the annual match played at the High School Rectory yesterday. After the heavy rain the previous night the wicket was slow, but it improved gradually during the day. Light rain fell at one stage but it did not interrupt play. High School went in first, McKenzie and Mouat facing the bowling of McSweeney and Rutherford. Mouat was dismissed for six, but McKenzie made a fine stand, and he had 54 to his credit, the highest of the day, before he was bowled by Rutherford. McSweeney and Rutherford on the drying wicket disposed of the remaining batsmen, of whom only 8,. J. McLeod reached double figures, and the side was dismissed for 102. Wright and Botting were the opening pair for Christ’s College, but neither lasted long, the score beingonly eight when the second wicket felT. Monaghan (26) and Ellis (53) soon put their side in a sound position, the partnership adding more than 60 to the score, the board registering 99 at the fall of the fourth wicket. McSweeney and Johns were at the crease when the side declared with 115 for four wickets. The School batsmen made a better showing in their second innings, the score being 99 for six wickets when the side declared. Christ’s College found the bowling more difficult on their second appearance, the first three wickets falling within a few minutes. At stumps the score was 37 for four wickets. Scores:—
