Minister Has Practical Experience British Official Wireless (Received November 20, 6.30 pun.) RUGBY, November 19. Mr Ernest G. Hicks, M.P., has been appointed Parliamentary Undersecretary to the new Ministry of Works and Buildings. Mr Hicks has been associated with the building trade for a long time, and will be the sole representative of the Ministry in the House of Ccmmons. Mr Hicks brings practical knowledge to a Department which will be specially concerned with plans for making good and rebuilding London when Nazi indiscriminate bombing is finally conquered. Mr Hicks, who has been M.P. for East Woolwich for nine years, started work as a “general builders youth” wnen only 11 years old. He is general-secretary of the Building Trade Workers’ Union, an Honorary Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects and was President of the Trades Union Congress in 1926.
