PLUNKET SOCIETY
Annua! Appeal To Public To-morrow the Plunket Society will make its annual appeal to the public for funds to carry on a work which is universally known and acclaimed. Like many organisations which are performing a service of inestimable value to the community, the Plunket Society commenced in a small way, and the road it had to tread was no easy one. Mothers in particular were sceptical of the efficiency of the new methods, but these soon proved their worth, and scepticism rapidly gave place to enthusiastic support. The passing of the years has seen marked progress in the work of the Society, owing on the one hand to the skill of the nurses and on the other to the continued support of the public, without which it would be impossible for the organisation to operate on its present scale. In Timaru citizens have never failed to accord the Society the measure of support the work merits, and the officers this year are confident that in spite of the many calls which have constituted something of a drain on the public purse, that their appeal will not go unheeded. Rose Day, as the occasion has come to be known, is one of the recognised street days of the year, and when the public see the collectors to-morrow they should have no cause to fear but that their money W’ill be going to assist a most worthy cause.
