BATMAN’S WINDFALL
“DEVOTION TO DUTY” Private John Edward Wills, of the Berkshire Regiment, learned the other day that he has been left a legacy of nearly £5500 by an officer of his regiment who died of wounds following the evacuation from Dunkirk. Wills, who lives in London, was batman to the officer, and a note to the Colonel of the regiment says that the money was left him as a mark of appreciation of “a militiaman whose devotion to duty earned the admiration of all.”
