CHANGE PROBABLE (Special to "The Timaru Herald.”) WELLINGTON. October 17 Winds—A fresh south-westerly change probable during the day. Weather—Becoming showery and colder. Seas —Moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation An anti-cyclone is still located in the north while the last of the recent series of westerly depressions is approaching across the south Tasman Sea. Forecast Winds—Moderate to strong northwesterly reaching gale force about Cook Strait. A change to south-westerly probably setting in shortly from the south and covering most, of the South Island during the next 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Moderate on the East Coast, rough elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate to strong north-west winds with a southwesterly change advancing over the southern portion; seas moderate in the north, rough elsewhere. Weather—lntermittent rain probable in the western and southern districts of the South Island and scattered falls extending later to Canterbury. Wellington and Taranaki; otherwise fair; temperatures continuing mild in the north but becoming colder in the south with the south-westerly change. Sunshine to date last year—l446.lhrs. IN OTHER CENTRES Fairlie: Yesterday was changeable with light showers of rain and occasional sunshine. Temuka: Yesterday was overcast with a south-easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees and the minimum 51. The glass was steady last evening. Geraldine: Overcast and warm with a light variable wind. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 29.2; thermometer, maximum 82, minimum 49; bright sunshine, 4 hours 48 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 161. Yesterday was mainly overcast and cool. Dunedin: Cool temperatures were experienced yesterday. A light northeast breeze prevailed. The maximum temperature was 54 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.80 inches (1008 millibars).
