CAR ACCIDENT
FAILURE TO LENDER AID By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, October 17. A verdict of guilty with a strong recommendation to mercy was returned by a jury in the Supreme Court against James White Williamson, aged 29, who, with Joan Myrtle Petersen, a domestic, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to render all practicable aid to a person injured in an accident involving a car of which they were in charge. Petersen was found not guilty and was discharged. Williamson was remanded for sentence. When the foreman announced the jury’s verdict Mr Justice Northcroft asked if the foreman could give him some indication why the recommendation had been made to guide him when considering Williamson’s sentence, the foreman said that it was mainly because of the conflicting evidence of a witness.
