Acceptances for the South Canterbury meeting are due to-morrow. The Buzzer’s win at Otaki on Saturday was his first since he won the Auckland Cup nearly three years ago. As was to be expected, Royal Chief could not foot it with the sprinters at Dunedin, and he was a bad last after going two furlongs. The Churchill Handicap at Dunedin ended very much the same as the Kurow Cup. The Raker appeared to be winning comfortably a luriong twin the post, but in each case Straightdel) fought on and ran the winner tu a neck. Silver Lily, when she registered an easy win in the McLean St ikes, was credited with 48 3-5, which is a tick faster than Pink Bond’s previous course record for four furlongs. Silver Lily is by Paper Money from Bonnie Lake and carried the colours in which the late R. McDonald raced Compensation and other good horses. It was reported that Doria did not thrive on the Dunedin trip, but she won the Air Force Handicap with ease, and will be a hot favourite for the Guineas this afternoon. She gave Don’t Forget and Gold Flight a lot of weight and was going away from them at the finish. Shikari did not do well enough in the October Handicap to make him look a danger. There was a fairly substantial increase in turnover on the first day of the Dunedin meeting, but in the meantime no worthwhile comparison can be made. Last year the meeting opened on Thursday. Credit, dam of the A.J.C. Derby winner Pandect, is closely related to Paper Slipper. She is by Paper Money from Formless, while Paper Slipper is by Paper Money from Shuffle, whose dam Tinihanga was by Absurd from Formless. Pleading has a lot of speed, but it appears that he is lacking in stamina. Certainly he was unlucky just after the start of the Trial Handicap at Dunedin, but he was in third place at the home turn and then weakened in the last furlong. Adina, who has won several 'hack races and even been placed in an open sprint, looks strange in the Trial Handicap at Gore, but he is quite eligible. It is open to horses which have not won a stake of £llO, and none of Adina’s wins has brought in more than £lOO.

Rawhamai, who returned nearly a score for a place in the Trial Handicap at Dunedin, is owned by Mr A. O. Mills. Some years ago, Tauramai, in this owner’s colours, finished unplaced in this race, and two days later upset form by winning the Dunedin Guineas. Rawhamai is by Paladin from Charmaine. Tauramai was by Paladin from Fairform, dam of Charmaine. Tissue’s win in the Maungatua Handicap at Dunedin has proved expensive. She was withdrawn from the Trial Handicap in which she was 121 b below the minimum, and gave away 71b to start in the better class. On top of that 101 b overweight was declared to secure L. J. Ellis. As a result Tissue’s rating has advanced by over a stone and a half. Tissue is by Paper Money from Fairwood, half-sister to Charmaine, Tauramai, Passaform, Rin Tin Tin and Dash o’ Dublin.

There were only six runners for the Maungatua Handicap at Dunedin, and the bulk of the money was entrusted to Airline 1004-601 and Spearthrust 680571. Green Boa was quickest to move, but at the end of a furlong Airline led past the six from Heidelberg, Tissue and Green Boa. Heidelberg joined Airline at the four furlongs, and they raced round the top two lengths clear of Tissue and Green Boa. Airline had sole charge a furlong from home from Tissue, Spear thrust and Green Boa, but Tissue cut him down and won by half a length from Green Boa, who finished well over a length in front of Airline and Spearthrust. Heidelberg compounded in the straight and finished last.

In the Trial Handicap at Wingatui. the four top-weights were entrusted with most of the money, the figures reading Pleading 559-428. Sir Amyas 479-466, Wild Fox 379-421 and Circular Note 143-366. Both Pleading and Circular Note got away badly. Sir Amyas was first to show from Slamannan, Irish Colleen and Rawhamai. Irish Colleen and Rawhamai led round the top, and into the straight, where Pleading had raced into third place ahead of Sir Amyas and Slamannan. Sir Amyas caught the leaders commencing the final furlong and drew away from Rawhamai. but Wild Fox put in a fast run from the ruck, and failed to catch Sir Amyas by only half a length. Rawhamai and Slamannan followed at intervals of two lengths.

Backers selected Sir Frederick 537453. Master Dingle 255-428 and Roseman 232-357 for the Spring Hurdles at Wingatui. Prince Flaneur and Combat led Airdrie, Milford and Sir Frederick to the first fence, where Roseman encountered interference. At the six furlongs Prince Flaneur, Airdrie and Sir Frederick were in line, clear of Combat, but going to the faraway turn Prince Flaneur and Airdrie were again clear of Sir Frederick, who was followed by Master Dingle and Combat. Prince Flaneur. Airdrie and Sir Frederick turned for home together, with Master Dingle in fourth place. Sir Frederick had a slight advantage at the last fence, and won by a short head from Master Dingle, who had to change his line. Airdrie was two lengths away, the same distance in advance of Prince Flaneur. Crack o’ Dawn was next.

Royal Lancer 1031-705, favourite for the Taioma Handicap at Dunedin, carried the biggest total of the day. Also in favour were Counterlunch 671-560 and Prince Ruenalf 472-430, but these two and Twenty Grand were unlucliv at the start. Pink Dress and Southern Sail took up the running from Gay Lancer and Royal Lancer and this lot raced in pairs until three furlongs from home. Then Royal Lancer made a move and with Southern Sail the favourite led Gay Lancer. Taxpay eland Johnemby into the straight. L : wo furlongs from the judge Royal Lancer commenced to draw away, and ne won bv three or four lengths from Southern Sail. Johnemby was three lengths further back, just beating Gay Lancer and Taxpayer.
