OLD MAN’S ANGER
COMMUNIST “DEALT WITH ’ . Frederick Threlfall, aged 60, has two sons in the Forces. One was with the B.E.F. in Flanders. There has been no word of him. The father, worrying about the war, stood listening to a Communist speaker. The speech irritated him. He took the law into his own hands and went behind the speaker. Then he tipped the platform. The speaker was shot among the audience. “To listen to a young man inciting other young fellows to refuse to help their country made my blood boil,” said Threlfall at Clerkenwell Police Court, London. “I tried to get a white feather for him, but failed. I lifted his stand only a few inches and the law of gravity happened to precipitate him into his audience.” Threlfall pleaded not guilty to a charge of insulting behaviour. The magistrate, Mr J. W. H. Brodrick, bound him over.
