RENOUNCED TITLE

FORMER ITALIAN BARON (From Our Own Correspondent) LONDON, June 15. Captain Baron George Marochetti, of the Italian nobility, this week became Mr George Ma.ochetti. He said: “I do not want to hold any honour from a country led by a man who does not know what honour means.” Mr Marochetti. third holder of the barony, renounced his title officially in the following advertisement: Baron George Marochetti, late 11th (P.A.0.) Hussars, does not wish to avail himself of the title of Baron, bestowed by the King of Sardinia upon his grandfather, and from now on desires to be known as Mr Gorge Marochetti. Mr Marochetti’s grandfather was Charles. First Baron Marochetti, R.A., the famous Italian sculptor and friend of Queen Victoria. His father was Italian Ambassador to Russia. Both Mr Marochetti. who is notv 46. and his brother, Baron Charles, served with the British Army in the last war. Mr Marochetti was a lieutenant in the Prince Albert’s Own. He is a city insurance broker now. In renouncing his title yesterday, he said: “It is my way of retaliating to the abominable action of Mussolini. I am proud to be a British subject and an ex-officer of the British Army. If the King of Italy had abdicated I would have kept my title, but he has not abdicated and so I consider he has endorsed Mussolini’s attempt to stab France in the back.”
