AUXILIARY HOSPITAL
TRAINING COLLEGE TAKEN OVER By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND. June 10. To provide additional accommodation for soldiers suffering from influenza, the Auckland Teachers’ Training College at Epsom is to be taken over by the Health Department and equipped as an auxiliary hospital. This was announced by the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr Allan J. Moody, at a meeting of the Board tonight. Mr Moody said that influenza at the Papakura Mobilisation Camp was on the increase and drastic steps had been necessary to cope with the conditions as the emergency wards at the Ellerslie Racecourse were becoming overcrowded. It is expected that 200 beds will be provided at the College. The emergency influenza hospital established last week at the Ellerslie Racecourse for Papakura soldiers now spreads over the main grandstand, St. Leger grandstand and the tea kiosk. The total number of cases to-day was 416, of whom 410 were in the Auckland Hospital, Auckland Infirmary and at Ellerslie. It is expected that a further 60 cases will be transferred from the camp to-morrow.
