ARMY CHANGES
Importance Of Home Defence British Official Wireless (Received June 9. 10 p in.) RUGBY, June 8. The War Office announces that the King has approved the following appointments:— General Sir Robert Gordon Finlayson, to be General Officer Commanclir.T In Chief, Western Command, vice General Sir Henry C. Jackson. Lieutenant-General Sir Ronald F. Adam to be General Officer Commanding In Chief, Northern Command, vice Genera! Sir William H. Bartholomew. Major-General H. C. B. Wemyss. to be Adjutant General to the Forces with the acting rank of LieutenantGeneral, vice, Sir Robert Gordon Finlayson.
These appointments are consequent on the increasing Importance of home defence which has introduced an operational as well as administrative aspect into the duties of General Officers Commanding in Chief, home commands. Prior to his appointment as Adjutant-General nearly a year ago. Sir Robert G. Finlayson was General Officer Commanding in Chief. British troops in Egypt. Sir Ronald Adam has recently been In command of a corps of the British Expeditionary Force. The Western Command vacancy, temporarily filled by the return from the retired list of Sir Henry Jackson, was created by the appointment of Lieutenant-General Haining as Vice-Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
