PLEASANT VALLEY

FAREWELL SOCIAL A social evening was held in the Pleasant Valley Hall to bid farewell to Mrs M. Brophy and children who are leaving the district to take up residence in Geraldine. A euchre tournament was held, the prizes being won by Mrs J. Kelliher, Mrs G. Tiplady, Mr H. Hill and Mr W. Crotty. Consolation prizes were won by Mr G. Crotty and Mr G. Tiplady. Two songs were contributed by Mr N. Gale, the accompanist being Mr C. Davies. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss A. Bailey, Messrs J. Gregan, Don Nelson and N. Gale. Mr T. Robinson was M.C. In making a presentation to Mrs Brophy of a handbag and a wallet of notes, Mr H. Hill paid a tribute to the assistance Mrs Brophy had given at any time when help was needed in the district. She had taken an active part in raising funds for the building of the hall, many years ago, and had always been a willing worker. Mrs H. Bailey, on behalf of the residents, presented her with a bouquet. After being accorded musical honours, Mr H. Walker returned thanks for Mrs Brophy. PERSONAL Mrs George Bailey, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs F. Aldridge, Christchurch, has returned home. Mrs E. Patrick has returned from a visit to Ashburton. Mr and Mrs J. Neville who have been on a holiday to Mr W. Patrick, “Brookwood.” Gapes Valley, have returned to Christchurch. Mss Nita Crotty who has spent the holidays with her mother, Mrs W. S. Crotty. Hilton Road, has returned to Dunedin.
