COLD AND CHANGEABLE Special to “ The Timaru Herald " WELLINGTON, May 5. Winds—Moderate to strong southerly to westerly winds. Weather —Cold and changeable with occasional passing showers. Seas —Moderate to rather rough. DOMINION FORECAST General situation A complex depression has been slowly crossing the Dominion. One centre was located this afternoon over the Cook Strait area and another appears to be forming to the northeast of Auckland. Forecast Winds—Southerly to westerly directions prevailing, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in some exposed positions about and north of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong winds from a south-easterly quarter and rough seas. Weather—Dull in Eastern areas between Kaikoura and East Cape with further rain and probably some heavy falls; elsewhere changeable with occasional showers and fair interva’-; temperatures cold with snow on the ranges and frosts to-night in the south. During the night the wind changed to the south-west and yesteruay was cold and wet. At times the wind was very strong. Sixty-two points of rain fell overnight and rain was still falling at 6 pin. when the barometer recorded 28.1 inches and was rising. Dunedin: On Saturday morning I; 1 rain commenced to fall and continued without ceasing, becoming heavier in the afternoon. Temperatures were mild to cool, the maximum being 57 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.59 inches (1003 millibars). Heavy rain fell in the night and the weather yesterday except for an hour or t” in the morning, was cold and wet.
