BADMINTON
Timaru Club Annual Meeting “The finances of the club are fairly satisfactory. The year’s working showed an excess of income over expenditure of £9/6/3 with cash in ’ hand of £l9/10/9,” stated the report I submitted to the annual meeting of the Timaru Badminton Club last evening. Mr B. W. Charman presided. The season began with the usual resignations, the report continued, but new applications for membership were received, which filled the vacancies. There was a waiting-list until June 26 when, at a special general meeting, it was decided to extend the limit of membership to 80, of which 10 should be juniors. The season closed with a membership of 66—35 men and 31 women. The Club played matches against Dunedin, Waimate, Ashburton and Christchurch. The Timaru Clpb won six matches and lost three. Thanks were expressed to the officers of the club, Mr Mathieson of the Defence Department, to the auditor (Mr R. Lewis) and the caretaker (Mr A. Smith). The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr R. J. Lewis; president, Mr B. W. Charman; vicepresident, Mr V. Koens; club captain, Mr W. Heads; vice-captain, Mr J. Gabites; secretary and treasurer, Miss E. Graham; auditor, Mr R. J. Lewis; committee, Messrs A. Everett, A. Bird, M. Shaw and Misses N. Hamyln and D. Carr.
