Infant Mortality In Britain United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received April 8, G. 30 p.m.) LONDON, April 7. The population of England and Wales at the middle of last year was 41,215,000. Births last year totalled 621,204. The birthrate of per 1000 per sons living is 15.1, which is .2 over that of 1938. The deathrate, 11.6, was the lowest yet recorded except in 1930. Infant mortality was 53 per 1000 live births, four per 1000 below the previous lowest. The rate of maternal mortality declined for the fourth year in succession, with a new low level of 2.62 per 1000 births. The deathrate for whooping cough per 1,000.000 children under 15 years Of age reached a low record of 126.
