THE EXHIBITION
A FINANCIAL FAILURE By Telegraph —Press Association WELLINGTON. April 8. Contributing causes to the financial loss experienced on the Exhibition were explained by the chairman of directors of the Exhibition Company (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) when opening the centennial conference of the Commercial Travellers' Association to-day The Exhibition had now under four weeks to go, he said. It had been a success, but not a financial success. Floor space that would have brought in a certain £50,000 had been pencilled but at a stroke of the pen that had been taken away, import restrictions preventing intending exhibitors from taking part. That loss was equivalent to 6/8 in the £ to shareholders. In addition, the war and petrol restrictions had an adverse effect, but there would still be an attendance of over two and a half millions.
