SHARP ENGAGEMENT

Heavy Fire On West Front

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received February 11, 6.30 p.m.) PARIS, February 10. A communique states that between the Moselle and the Saar artillery fire has been markedly more active by both sides. An enemy raid was repulsed. A serious encounter took place during lunch in which our detachments suffered some losses, inferior, however, to those inflicted on the enemy. A severe engagement on the Western Front is reported in an earlier French

communique. Artillery fire from both sides was very heavy, particularly between the Moselle and the Saar.

A German communique states that the enemy lost several prisoners in a patrol encounter at Forbach.

The German News Agency states that the enemy lost six killed, several wounded and four prisoners. The German patrol had only one killed. The German News Agency declares: "Despite the increased activity it is still impossible to contact the English who are supposed to be in the front line.” President Lebrun visited the British troops and was enthusiastically cheered. He admired the fine standard of the troops. Visits To Wounded Relatives of wounded British soldiers have left to visit them in France. Relatives of those missing will also go to France in a hope of aiding identification.
