OBITUARY

MISS ESTHER GLEN By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, February 9. The death occurred to-day of Miss Esther Glen, a pioneer in the sphere of women’s journalism in New Zealand and widely known as the author of children’s books. As "Lady Gay,” first of the Christchurch "Sun” and then of the "Press,” Miss Glen was beloved of thousands of children throughout the Dominion. Miss Glen first entered business life, but found time for free lance journalism and to write her first two books. About 14 years ago Miss Glen joined the staff of the "Sun” to take charge of what was then the first children’s supplement in a daily newspaper in New Zealand. The year’s work of her big newspaper family was directed towards a Christmas mission by which the lives of the poorer children and lonely old people in poor circumstances were brightened at Christmas. When the "Sun” ceased publication Miss Glen joined the staff of the "Press” where she continued her great work. She died after a short illness.
