Dr. Geoffrey A. Myers, M. 8., F.R.C.S., has been gazetted to a lieutenant’s commission in the R.A.M.C.

Lieutenant-Commander H. Rowsell, R.N.R., has been appointed naval officer in charge at Lyttelton. He relieved Commander G. H. D. Dennistoun, D. 5.0., R.N.

Mr F. J. Tonkin, a member of the Hastings Orchestral Society for some 33 years, tendered his resignation at the annual meeting of the society. In appreciation of his services he was elected a life member.

Mr H. F. McClune, who was formerly headmaster at Miramar South School, has been appointed headmaster at the Levin District High School in succession to Mr W. D. Thomas, who has been appointed principal of Horowhenua College.

The Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, Anglican Bishop of Polynesia, is expected to arrive at Auckland by the Mariposa on February 17 on his way to attend the General Synod of the Church of England in New Zealand.

The Rev. N. F. Benham, L.Th., Durham, vicar of Tolaga Bay, has been appointed vicar of the Waikouaiti Anglican Church, succeeding Archdeacon A. C. H. Button, who’ has been appointed to St. John’s, Roslyn.

Lieutenant-Colonel A. H. A. Empson is one of several officers gazetted as being restored to the Effective List of the Indian Army. Colonel Empson, son of the late Mr W. Empson, of Wanganui, saw considerable service in the Bth Indian Cavalry. He served during the Great War and was mentioned in dispatches. Returning to India in 1919, he was stationed at Poona. Later he became commandant of the Ist Battalion (Prince of Wales’s Own), 12th Frontier Force Regiment. Subsequently he was Commandant of Kitchener College at Nowgong.
