WAIMATE WINTER SHOW

A. and P. Association Support Delegates Appointed Mr A, E, Wilson, president of the Waimate Winter Show Society, yesterday waited on a meeting of the Waimate A. and P. Association asking the Association to appoint delegates to (he annual meeting of the Society on February 20. After Mr Wilson advanced reasons on the lines of those he put before a meeting of the Waimate branch of the Farmers' Union in the previous week, it was decided to appoint three delegates: Messrs T. B. W. Hamilton (president). N. H. Hayman and D B. Wilson. The secretary (Mr A. J Hoskins) announced that Messrs J. Dempsey (president) and J. C. Hay would represent the Farmers’ Union. The North Otago A. and P. Association advised that it was holding its annual ram fair on April 3 at the Oamaru show grounds.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL RESULTS A very successful carnival was held in the Waimate Municipal Baths by the Waimate Swimming Club on Thursday night. Keane and D. Barry (equal) 1. JUVENILES APPREHENDED Two juveniles have been apprehended in Timaru for breaking and entering an unoccupied house at Stoney Creek, the property of Mr G. W. Reid. LICENCES GRANTED At a sitting of No. 4 Transport Authority at Oamaru yesterday, taxi licences were granted to the following Waimate applicants: Messrs S. G. Jacobs, one car, J. Moir, one car. and B. F. Walker, two cars. PERSONAL A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Alfred Garland was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Waimate A. and P. Association. Captain N. A. Rattray, who has enlisted for the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, was granted leave of absence at the meeting of the Waimate A. and P. Association yesterday, and it was decided to send him a letter of congratulation. Captain Rattray will be an honorary member of the Association while he is on active service.

Miss Margery Smith is spending a holiday in Wellington, where she is the guest of Mr and Mrs Young.

Miss Kathleen Breen has returned home after spending a holiday in Fair lie.

Mr and Mrs J. Pox, Studholme, have returned from Wellington. Miss Joy Segar is at present on holiday in Rangiora.

Mr and Mrs Cyril Douthwaite are the guests of Mrs T. Ottley, Opie Street.

The annual meeting of the Waimate Winter Show Society will be held in the secretary’s office on Tuesday, February 20, at 8 p.m.
