NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, February 8. Applications from the Napier and Manawatu Clubs to conduct the 1942 championships were considered by the New Zealand Golf Council at a monthly meeting. It was decided to reply that applications would be considered when the time came to decide the question of holding the tournament that year. The North Island close amateur championships will be held at Palmerston North at Easter, but no application has been received to conduct the South Island event. The following cable message, to which suitable acknowledgment has been sgnt, was read from the Royal and Ahcient Club of St. Andrews: “The Royal and Ancient Club sends cordial greetings to golfers in New Zealand. We are deeply sensible of the magnificent efforts being made by your country to help in our great struggle.—Sutherland, captain.”
