BASES IN PACIFIC
Construction Denied By Japan United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received February 8, 11.55 p.m.) TOKIO, February 8. Rear-Admiral Masao Kanazawa, naval spokesman, reiterated that Japan would bomb the Yunnan railway so long as it was used to move Chinese war supplies. Referring to the attack on
February 2, he asserted that the bombers intended to wreck a bridge instead of a train. Japan would recompense bona fide injured. Commenting on the Netherlands suggestion that Holland was prepared to increase the defences Pf the East Indies, he said that perhaps could be attributed to a misunderstanding of Japan’s policy, which was solely economic. He further denied that Japan was constructing bases in the South Pacific mandated areas.
