Influence of Dictators In South America

WASHINGTON, February 6.
Discussing the State Department’s financial needs for the next fiscal year, the Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) advised the House of Representatives’ sub-committee that It now appeared certain that the present strain and dangers might continue indefinitely.
Mr Lawrence Duggan, chief of the Latin American Division of the Department of State, said: “The war nus increased the department’s task in South America, where European di dators are continuing a drive for influence. The European ambitions are not only economic. They also have far-intentioned political and military motives. Until the world is more stabilised and some countries discontinue their political and territorial ambitions, we shall have to keep the closest tab on these activities.”
