Dr. W. E. Henley
Waikato Appointment

One of the most brilliant medical men in the British Empire at the present time, Dr. Wilton Ernest Henley, M. 8., Ch. B„ 8.A., who was a 1929 New Zealand Rhodes Scholar, was appointed to the staff of the Waikato Hospital at a meeting of the Board to-day. He will be the physician of the hospital. He has had extensive training and experience in England and other countries and was described by some prominent British medical men as one of the most outstanding students to have passed through St. Mary’s College, London. When in Auckland, after his return from England last year, Dr. Henley v.-as engaged in research work on infant nutrition under the auspices of the nutrition committee of the Medical Research Council of the Plunket Society.
An indication of his qualifications is the fact that he was selected as the joint medical superintendent of the emergency hospital organisation in Great Britain during the Munich crisis in September, 1938. Dr. Henley was educated at Wanganui Collegiate School and Otago University before proceeding to New College, Oxford, to further his medical studies. Later he was engaged from 1932 until 1939 : St. Mary's, London. He has won several prominent scholarships and awards. He has also been associated with Rugby football in Britain as captain of several hospital fifteens and captain of the Middlesex County team in 1934-35. He is to take up his new appointment in a few months.
