MAIL BOX THEFTS

AN ARREST MADE By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, February 8. An arrest has been made by the police in connection with recent thefts from mail boxes in the lobby at the Chief Post Office. Four boxes were prised open between 1 and 2 a.m. on December 14, and other boxes were also damaged over the previous weekend.

The police inquiries are not yet quite complete, although some of the missing letters have been traced. It is possible that further. action will be held up until firms which sent out letters which were stolen make further inquiries.

It is reported that the arrest was made after the cashing of a cheque. There have also been one or two cases recently of money and equipment being taken from telephone booths, and these are being investigated.
