Weather Rain in the ranges, mainly fair on the plains; warm to hot temperatures. Seas —Moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation The situation has developed into one of the westerly type, pressure being low in the south and higher to the north. Forecast Winds —Moderate to strong northerly co westerly rising to gale force at times in some exposed positions south of New Plymouth and Napier. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough to rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook Strait; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong northerly winds, changing later to westerly in the southern portion; seas moderate in the north, rough in the south. Weather—Unsettled in the western and far southern districts of the South Island with rain at times; otherwise mainly fair to fine but with a few scattered showers probable in the King Country, Taranaki and Wellington; temperatures hot east of the ranges; mild to warm elsewhere. A light north-easterly in the morning changed to a north-wester later. The barometer at 5 p.m. recorded 29.65 inches.

Geraldine,: Yesterday was dull in the morning but changed to bright sunshine in the afternoon. Conditions were very hot. Fairlie: Yesterday was calm and hot for the most part. A nor’-wester sprang up in the late afternoon. Temuka: Yesterday was partly overcast with humid conditions. The maximum temperature was 86 degrees and the minimum 58. The glass was rising slowly last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer, 28.9; thermometer, maximum, 75.5; minimum. 57.0; bright sunshine, 2 hours 54 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 67. Yesterday was sunny and very warm.

Dunedin: The sky was overcast yesterday and conditions were sultry, the maximum temperature being 85 degrees. Light rain fell in the afternoon. The barometer was steady at 29.45 inches (997 millibars).
