COLD CONTINUES

Many cities report a shortage of foodstuffs and coal owing to the dislocation of transport. One hundred degrees of frost were recorded in the middle of Finland and 43 in ❖»s» «•><■» * »;■» »;> »;•» *«* <■» <■» *i* ❖
Germany. Ice flocs brought to a standstill navigation on the Rhine and on most of the Netherlands waters. According to a message from New York a sustained nation-wide cold wave thus far has caused 112 deaths. The temperature was 20 degrees below zero at Greenville, Maine. A strike of coal deliverymen accentuated the discomfort in New York, where the temperature was 12 below. The Hudson river is frozen to a depth of a foot. A hundred ton tanker sank off New Jersey. Ice pierced the hull as she was attempting to free another vessel.
