Handle Assailant Commits Suicide By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, January 21. A young Maori was attacked and killed at Te Teko 10 miles from Whakatane and another native for whon the police were searching was later found dead with a gunshot wound in the chest near Hongi’s Track on the Whakatane-Rotorua highway. Johnny Maaka, aged 20, the man attacked, died almost immediately from injuries apparently inflicted by the crank handle of a motor-car at 10 o'clock last night. The body of the other man. Rang! Tukehutukehu, aged 27, was discovered to-day. Tukehutukehu, better known as Robert Tukehu, drove into Te Teko with Maaka on Saturday afternoon. While there a quarrel developed between Tukehutukehu and a Maori woman. Maaka was alleged to have taken part in the struggle Finally he -was struck over the head by the crank-handle of a car. Tukehutukehu had disappeared when the police party arrived. The police were told he had shaken hands with all the natives at the scene, wishI ing them goodbye and writing a will in the form of a note. He then drove away in his car. A search revealed the body of Tukehutukehu with a gunshot wound in the chest.
