Big Mob Scenes in “The Hunchback” In the excitement aroused by the grotesque make-up worn by Charles Laughton for the title role of R.K.O. Radio's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” it has been generally overlooked that the requirements of the rest of the huge cast may cause a temporary shortage in the make-up profession. R.K.O. plans to use 3000 extras in big mob scenes during the final weeks of filming “The Hunchback,” requiring in addition to facial colouring, 3000 15th century wigs and 2500 beards and whiskers. Between 60 and 65 make-up men and hairdressers will be required to handle the mob, or more than onefourth of the 225 comprising the profession’s entire Hollywood membership.
