Recruiting Response

TOURING the four months an which recruiting ” offices have been open in the Dominion 20.541 have volunteered for service overseas. Of this number 21-16 have been graded ns permanently unfit and 1292 have been rejected because they are engaged in reserved occupations. It has not been stated publicly what these reserved occupations are, hut the chief of them would be the farming industry. There has been a feeling in some quarters that the response to the appeal for volunteers generally has not reached expectations, but the figures, which so far are complete only up to the week ending January 6, belie that suggestion. Young men, and older ones as well, have come forward magnificently and for the present there is little likelihood that the Dominion will fail in meeting its military commitments.
