WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST

FAIR TO FINE Special to ” The Timaru Herald ” Winds —Light to moderate easterly winds, freshening at times on the coast. Weather—Fair to fine and warm. Seas —Slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation An anti-cyclone is centred east of the South Island, while a weak depression has formed to the north-east of the North Island. Forecast Winds—From an easterly quarter predominating, moderate to fresh over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere light or moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Becoming rough in places on the East Coast north of Hawke’s Bay, elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate and variable winds with south-easterlies or southerlies predominating in the northern portion, seas slight but rising in the north. Weather—Scattered rain over the northern half of the North Island, possibly extending later as far south as Taranaki and southern Hawke’s Bay, otherwise fair to fine; temperatures warm. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: Bright sunshine prevailed yesterday with detached clouds and an easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 65.1 degrees. The barometer recorded 30.14 inches <lO2l millibars) at 5 p.m. and was falling. Lake Tekapo: The sun shone on 29 days in December for a total of 268.8 hours, a daily average of 8.7 hour-,. The sunshine for the year was 2412.1 hours, a daily average of 6.9 hours. Rain fell on three days in December for a total of 1.31 inches. The rainfall for the year was 12.03in5. Fairlie: Yesterday was fine and sunny with a breeze from the east. Temuka: Yesterday was fir e and sunny with a light easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 67 degrees and the minimum 46. The glass was rising slowly last evening. Yesterday was mainly sunny and warm. Dunedin: The sun shone brightly yesterday from a cloudless sky and there was a gentle breeze from the south-west, which changed round later to north-east. Temperatures were mild to warm, the maximum being 75 degrees. The barometer was falling slightly throughout the day and evening reading was 30.14 inches (1020 millibars).
