MILITARY SERVICE

EXEMPTION NOT DESIRED By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, January 17. A stop-work meeting of the Auckland Municipal Abattoir employees this morning expressed resentment at the decision of the City Council to make formal application that essential workers in the abattoir should be placed on the same footing as freezing workers and debarred from military service. The men claimed that killing was falling off and that there will be a lessened demand for local consumption. The meeting, which was largely attended, passed unanimously a resolution of protest at the council’s action and appointed a deputation to take the matter up with the council immediately.
