CALL FOR HELP
Italian On Distance Flight United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 16, 6.30 p.m.) RIO DE JANEIRO, January 15. The Civil Aeronautics authority announced that it had received a call for help from Colonel Angelo Tondi, who is attempting the world’s distance record flight from Italy to Patagonia. The Italian was believed to be in mld-At-lantic when he advised by radio that one engine was failing. Later the Italian Embassy at Buenos Aires announced that Colonel Tondi landed on the Brazilian Island of Fernando Noronha, 380 miles northeast of Pernambuca. He flew 4400 miles In 34 hours and 25 minutes. The landing was caused by the fuel pipe breaking during a storm.
