YACHTING
CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, January 15. A fresh northerly wind provided a good test for the competitors in the first yacht races for the Sanders Cup, Cornwell Cup, Idle-Along championship and Tauranga championship, which began this afternoon on Wellington harbour. Ariki (Canterbury) sailed by G. Brasell, went very well to win the Sanders Cup race from Caress (Auckland), which was close to the leader all the way. The Bay of Plenty representative outsailed the other competitors in the idle-along race, winning by almost four minutes from Welington. Both the Cornwell Cup and Tauranga races were won by Wellington.
