EFFECT OF WAR

electric supply concerns hit By Telegraph —Press Association AUCKLAND. January 15. The drastic effect of the war on electric supply concerns in Britain was commented on by Mr E. Hutchison, supply engineer for the Auckland Power Board, on his return from Britain, United States, Canada, and Australia. In many cases companies are being used as a centre of control for air raid precautions. They are faced with most difficult conditions and have lost from 20 to 30 per cent, of their revenue due to black-outs and moving population. They were faced with very heavy expenditure on air raid precaution measures and were operating with depleted staffs. “Although our investigations into electric conditions has given us many new angles of approach and methods which could be applied advantageously in New Zealand, it is admitted everywhere that our method of Government generation with distribution retailed by publically elected power boards is as near ideal as we can visualise at present,” he continued.
