TIMARU AIRPORT

Supplementary Loan Approved Council Decision At a special meeting of the Timaru Borough Council last night, sanction having been received from the Loans Board, a statutory formal resolution was carried authorising the Council to proceed with the raising of a special loan, entitled The Timaru Airport Supplementary Loan, 1940, of £l5OO, for the purpose of completing the work for which the Airport Loan 1935 had been authorised. The special loan will mature on March 31. 1948, and the interest will be at the rate of 41 per cent, per annum. Mr A. F. Stock, secretary of the Oamaru United Friendly Societies’ Picnic Committee, who wrote thanking the Council for the assistance to be given in regard to supplies and the Caroline Bay Hall next Saturday, invited the Mayor and another representative of the Council to attend luncheon with the Oamaru officials. The invitation was accepted, and it was agreed that the Mayor and Cr. Foote should attend the luncheon. Reserves Committee On the recommendation of the Reserves Committee, the Council agreed that special two weeks' leave be granted to Mr E. J. Ellis who resigned after 19 years’ service as gardener at Caroline Bay, in recognition of his services. Works Committee In connection with the provision of a water supply to those outside the borough the Works Committee reported that a letter had been considered from the borough solicitor in regard to easements in which he stated that there was no power for the Council to grant a perpetual supply of water. It was recommended, therefore, that the supply be granted for a term of 21 years. The recommendation was approved. As he had secured another appointment Mr K. W. Sandford, assistant engineer, tendered his resignation which was accepted. Mr Sandford expressed appreciation of the courteous treatment he had received during his three years' employment by the Council.
