The re-construction and tar-sealing of the Geraldine-Fairlie main highway from Geraldine to Crotty's corner has now been deierred by the Geraldine County Council and no tenders were accepted for the work at the monthly meeting of the council yesterday. Because the tenders received for the reconstruction and x tar-sealing of this portion of the highway were in excess of the original estimate and loan schedule as a result of rising costs and Highway Board demands, it was agreed on the motion of Crs J. Acland and T. Lyon that no tenders be accepted and that necessary work only be done in constructing culverts and improving the corners. The meeting was attended by the chairman (Mr K. Mackenzie) and Crs. F. R. Flatman, T. Lyon. A. Bisdee, A. J. Davey, W. Buchan, C. Ley and J. Acland. Debit Balance The chairman of the Finance Committee (Cr. J. The bridge on I the side road was so near to the main road that it was difficult to straighten up before reaching the corner after negotiating the bridge. He suggested that the bridge be widened before a serious accident occurred. All matters were referred to the engineer to inspect.
